Who is Stride Racing Club for?

Anyone who is keen to get more involved in racing! We are an inclusive club; there are no prerequisites for joining, other than members must be 18 or over to join, that they are not for any reason prohibited from owning a race horse or prohibited from admission to a racecourse and they are not a person to whom the provisions of rule 411(b) of the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing apply.

How much does membership cost?

You can choose to pay monthly, at NZ$59 per month, or a lump sum payment of NZ$590 per annum (yearly subscriptions receive the equivalent of two months' free).

Will there be any extra costs on top of the membership fee?

No, only if you choose to purchase tickets to any member events that aren’t free.

When are payments deducted?

Monthly payments are deducted every month from the day you sign up. Payments are a month/year in advance.

What happens if my payment fails?

Your card will automatically be retried by our payment gateway. The same procedure will happen if declined again up to four times. Membership can be terminated if payment is still not received within 30 days. We will give you 14 days’ notice to remedy the default before your membership is terminated.

What happens if my credit card expires or card changes?

Our payment gateway automatically updates card numbers and expiration dates that you have stored with Stripe. In cases where your physical card gets replaced (i.e. gets lost or is compromised), we'd work directly with the credit networks to update your credit card information so you continue using our service without interruption.

How long does the subscription last for?

Your subscription will continue until you give 90 days’ notice. In the event that the club is closed, you’ll receive 90 days’ notice before termination of your subscription payments.

Is there a minimum contract term?

No, but you’ll need to give 90 days’ notice if you wish to withdraw from Stride Racing Club.

Can I leave the club whenever I want?

Yes, there is no minimum membership contract - but remember that withdrawing from the club means giving up your member benefits and you’ll need to send your members’ card back!

Do I get a refund if I leave the club?

If you paid the annual fee you’ll receive a refund for the amount of time remaining on your membership, less the 90 days’ notice. Any prize-money earned will also be paid out to you at this time.

How many owners are there?

Each stable (three horses) has a maximum of 250 owners.

What happens if the 250 memberships in the stable sell-out?

Once each stable is close to selling out we’ll start working with our partners to get the next stable ready to go. We’ll put together a waiting list so you’ll be first to know before launch.

Can the Club be closed?

Yes, if the partners in Stride Racing Club agree to close the Club and associated Syndicate for any reason, you’ll get 90 days’ notice. For more detail refer to clause 9 of the Syndicate Agreement.

Can I still join if I don’t live in New Zealand?

Yes, the Stride Racing Club is open to international members as long as you’re at least 18 years old.

Can I transfer or sell my shares to someone else?

No. If you opt to leave the club, your membership is assigned back to us.

Can I buy a membership for someone else?

Yes, as long as they read and agree to the Stride Racing Club Rules and Disclosure Statement, and are at least 18 years old.

Can I buy multiple subscriptions?

No, we offer just one membership per person. If you want to consider buying bigger shares in horses, we can point you in the right direction.

Can I split my membership?

No, each share can only be owned by one person.

How is prize-money distributed?

Every 12 months we’ll send a summary of accounts to members. If the balance per member is over $50 once all costs are covered, it is paid to syndicate members. If the balance per member is not over $50, it will be held in account until the end of the next 12-month period.

Should I expect to make money as a member of the club?

The club is 100% for entertainment purposes. If we’re lucky enough to have top-performing horses there may be a chance of a small return.

A portion of my membership fee goes to racing the horses, where does the rest go?

Stride Racing Club is all about the experience, providing as much value as possible and enabling access to experiences that would normally be difficult to organise yourself. Our team spends a lot of time working on partnerships, content, events, and ways for you to engage with your horses, industry players and other club members. For example, the Auckland Racing Club benefits alone are valued at over $400.

What if I want to invest more or buy larger horse shares?

If you’d like to be involved in larger scale ownership please contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Will you have a lower North Island or South Island stable in the future?

Once the initial stable is up-and-running we’ll gauge what demand there is for a stable or two in other parts of the country.

How do I find out about upcoming events?

Members can keep up-to-date with events and news via our website, social media channels, communications platform and, in some cases, email. Events will be held predominantly in Auckland and Waikato.

Can I bring a guest to a stable visit or event?

Yes, however registration and an additional fee may apply.

How are the horses selected?

Our stud partners identify suitable horses within their farms. The horses are well-bred fillies or mares that the stud is looking to retain for breeding purposes in the future. We aim to have a spread of untried and tried horses to try to make sure there’s always at least one horse up and racing.

Do I own an equity share in the horses?

No, the shares are leasehold and ownership remains with our stud partners. The club won’t have a right of purchase as the horses are generally breeding prospects for the studs.

How much of a share do I have in the horses?

The fractional lease shares in the horses are designed to let you get a full owner’s experience and associated benefits at a very affordable cost. You’ll own a 1000th lease share in each of the horses. If you’re interested in a larger share in a horse, let us know and we’ll help put you in touch with the right solution to suit your needs.

Are members involved in naming new horses?

Where possible members will be asked to submit name suggestions and then vote on the best name for the horses. The final say will remain with the stud.

How will I know what is happening with the horses?

Our state-of-the-art communications platform will ensure you have all the information you need about your horses at your fingertips - to access whenever and wherever you need it.

Can I contact the trainers directly?

Only the Syndicate Manager will have direct contact with the trainer on a day-to-day basis. Members will have an opportunity to meet and talk with the trainer at organised stable visits or at the races. You’ll be kept up to date about your stable via our online communications platform.

Will I have a say in the decisions about how the horse is trained and set for races?

All racing and training decisions will be managed by the trainer, racing manager and stud master.

What happens if a horse is sent to Australia to race?

The club will use any accumulated prize money to pay its share of the travel costs to Australia. You will retain membership and we’ll work with Australian racing clubs to gain owners’ privileges on-course.

What happens if the horses aren’t performing or are no good?

If a horse doesn’t show sufficient ability to be persevered with as a racing proposition, the Manager at their discretion may return the horse to the lessor with 30 days’ notice.

What happens if a horse retires or is returned to the lessor?

We’ll replace it with another similar level (if possible) horse from the stud partners. If a replacement can’t be found, your monthly payments will be reduced by $7 (incl GST) per month.

At the races

Do I get free entry into race-courses when a club horse is racing?

Most race clubs will allow you free entry to the course with your membership card and/or the NZTR letter you'll receive leading up to race day. We'll let you know if this isn't the case.

Will I be able to get into the parade ring or winners’ enclosure?

It’s the individual racing club’s decision as to how many tickets we receive to these areas.  Members wanting to attend will enter a draw to secure a space.

Can I bring a guest to the races?

Each racing club will have a different policy. We’ll let you know whether this will be possible and whether the guest will need to pay on an event-by-event basis.

What benefits do I get at the races?

These will vary depending on the racing clubs’ policy. We'll continue to work with clubs to secure and communicate the benefits to you. In most cases, all members' will receive standard owners' privileges.
